Arthouse Cinema Management & Programming Workshop
The Network of Arab Arthouse Screens (NAAS) and the Metropolis Cinema Association, in collaboration with ArteEast, are pleased to announce the kickoff of the first workshop in the Arab world for programmers and directors of Arthouse cinemas in the region.
This workshop will be held at the Metropolis Empire Sofil - Beirut from the 6th to the 10th of March 2014, hosting 20 participants from the Arab world, namely: Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, U.A.E and Lebanon, representing a wide range of institutions in the region from full-fledged arthouse cinemas, to cine clubs, to art spaces wishing to develop a regular film program.
The program will run over five days, and will include panels, presentations, case studies and interactive sessions covering topics such as programming cinemas and festivals, the film market landscape in the region, working with distributors, developing audiences and income building for independent exhibitors. It will also include discussions and networking sessions with distributors and film professionals from Arab countries and Europe, as well as a professional training in audience development and income building delivered by the Independent Cinema Office (ICO) in the UK.
Throughout the workshop, participants will interact with programmers, trainers and experts from renowned European universities (FEMIS, Goldsmiths), distribution companies (Sophie Dulac, Urban), international festivals (Cannes-Toronto) and international institutes (ICO) that will share with the participants their expertise and reflections around these subjects.
The workshop is supported by: FSP « Consolidation et Développement de la Francophonie au Liban », the French Institute of Lebanon, Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation, the Hubert Bals Fund and the British Council.
