AT EAST” artist salon series featuring Lebanese filmmaker

Born in Dakar, Senegal in 1958, Ghassan Salhab
moved to Beirut in 1970, and to Paris in 1975. Since then, he has
divided his time between Beirut and Paris. Among his works are
two feature length films, Terra incognita (2002) which was selected
for the category "Un Certain regard" at Cannes, and Beyrouth
fantôme (1998). He is a writer, contributing to Adab, an Arabic
review of art and literature, and also a videomaker. His short
works include videos such as De la séduction (with Nesrine
Khodr) and Baalbeck (with Mohamed Souei and Akram Zaatari, 2002).
“Not at East” is a series of performances, conversations,
screenings and readings that is part of Arts International's Islamic
World Arts Initiative supported by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic
Art and the New York State Council on the Arts. For more information,
