ArteEast
presents the first annual CinemaEast Film Festival
ArteEast’s first annual CinemaEast Film Festival,
building on five seasons of its popular film series, will be held
at the Quad Cinema in New York City.
November 4–10, 2005
Mature and often surprising new talent is thriving
amongst Arab, Turkish and Iranian directors, actors and producers,
who are challenging existing sociopolitical and artistic traditions
with intelligence, ingenuity and humor. The CinemaEast Film
Festival will highlight the best of this established and up-and-coming
talent, with an emphasis on films that have not yet received
widespread recognition due to a lack of international distributors
and political sensitivities inherent in many established festivals.
The week-long festival will bring over 50 films,
as well as discussions with visiting filmmakers, to New York’s
Quad Cinema. In addition to bringing the region’s latest cinematic
accomplishments to a US audience, the festival will serve as a preliminary
bridge between the US and Middle East film industry, encouraging
awareness and collaboration through a series of workshops and roundtable
discussions developed in collaboration with New York University
(NYU) and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council
(LMCC).
Festival volunteers contribute unique skills and
are exposed to a culturally rich experience. To be a part of this
exciting New York City premiere event, contact Katherine Cole at
