ArteEast invites filmmakers of the Middle
East and its Diasporas to submit new work for inclusion in the CinemaEast
Film Festival, a week-long festival to be held at the Quad Cinema
in New York City, November 4 - 10, 2005.
ArteEast has been promoting the visibility
and awareness of the diverse arts and cultures of the Middle East
in the United States since 2003. ArteEast is the first organization
of its kind, and its flagship program, the year-round screening
and discussion series, CinemaEast was named by New York Magazine
one of the "top emerging film programs in the city" and
is about to complete its fourth successful season at the Cantor
Film Center at New York University (NYU).
The first annual CinemaEast Film Festival
will host recent releases, premières in New York and in the
US, and works by emerging filmmakers, selected by an international
committee of respected filmmakers and critics, with an emphasis
on exceptional feature films that have not yet gained distribution
and exposure in the US. The festival will include a special program
of shorts (fiction and non-fiction) dedicated to filmmakers from
the Middle Eastern diasporas in the US. The CinemaEast series will
continue at NYU in a revised format of year-round monthly screenings
of documentary, experimental, rare and classic films followed by
panel discussions.
We welcome works in all formats and
all genres which exemplify the rich, complex, challenging and provocative
nature of filmmaking from the Middle East. Entries will be judged
by a panel of distinguished filmmakers, critics and scholars.
Festival submission deadline is July 15th,
2005. No Entry Fee
Please mail your NTSC, PAL VHS or DVD screener and press materials
