Biography:
Farouk Kaspaules is an Iraqi born Canadian artist who has been exhibiting since mid 1980s, and has been actively engaged with artist-run centers, organizing and curating exhibits on political and cultural themes. His interest in the events shaping the political and social situation in the Middle East influenced his work that found an expression in the 1995 exhibit, Non Sequitur, at SAW Gallery, which dealt with the issue of the Gulf War. His many other exhibitions include The Lands Within Me – Memory of a Place, at the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa (2001) showcasing the work of Arab artists who immigrated to Canada; State of Things at Centre d’exposition l’Imagier in Gatineau (2003), dealing with the condition of the Marsh Arabs of Southern Iraq. This year, Farouk is holding two international solo exhibits in the USA and France dealing metaphorically with the issues of global violence; he is also participating in two group exhibits in Ottawa and Gatineau dealing with labor unions and the idea of furniture.
