Biography:
Assia Lakhlif was born in Morocco and immigrated to New York City at age seven. A college senior at the Cooper Union School of Art, Assia expresses many of the issues that deal with the Middle Eastern politics, culture, history and current events. These themes, ideas and messages are created by performances through the visual arts, including photography, painting as well as film and video. Being brought up in New York with her small family, while leaving behind her roots, the twenty year old artist is very much attached to her strong beliefs, values and Moroccan culture, and it is this that motivates her work. Through her artwork Assia hopes to tell a story of a place, a feeling, an action or experience from her visions.
