Biography:
Born in Baghdad in 1957, Ibrahim Rashid lives and works in Malmö, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark. In his work, Rashid seeks to examine the artist’s interaction with culture, life and the international contemporary art movement. He also produces video art that traces social events in the dark, observing the interaction of humans and nature at different locations and situations. His work concentrates on the dynamics of groups and the movement between individual consciousness and its mental space vs. the "real" space of social becoming. His work has been shown at solo and group exhibitions at many art museums and galleries in Sweden, Europe, USA and the Middle East. He has won many awards for his work, including The Swedish Arts Grant Committee, 1996 and 2003, The Cultures Grant of The Swedish Bank, 2004, Darat Al Funun Residency Fellowships, 2004, and kultur utviklingsmidlerna i Farum, Denmark, 2000.
