Biography:
Born in Nazareth to Palestinian refugees from the northern village of Mjedil, Waked is an artist and designer who studies philosophy and fine arts at Haifa University. He lives and works in Haifa and Nazareth. Waked has presented at scores of exhibitions, including international biennials such as Venice Biennial; Arts Electronica 2002 (Linz, Austria); The 6th Sharjah International Biennial (United Arab Emirates); Home Works II: A Forum on Cultural Practices (Beirut, Lebanon); Construction in Process (Lodz, Poland); Art Focus 3, International Biennial of Contemporary Art (West Jerusalem). Among the most eminent of Waked’s solo practices are: Masks: When God’s Face Disappears (paintings, 1994); Melancholia (print installation, 1998); This Is How It Was, This is How It Happened (missed media installation, 2001); Chic Point (video, 2003). Waked’s Chic Point was recently nominated as one of the top twenty five films in history in the Austrian magazine Profil.
