The Palestine Fairies Project: Participation opportunityDeadline: December 31, 2010Stories about Palestine and Womanhood, Sawt Al Niswa is proud to launch the Palestine Fairies Project*, an initiative to host the voices of Palestinian women living in Palestine, in exile, and other emerging voices that narrate the stories of Palestine and womanhood. The project is a process of understanding the Palestinian struggle as one of the most fundamental struggles towards liberation, and how it reflects on women, in particular, in their process of emancipation. The project comes to underline Palestinian liberation as literal and metaphorical used to construct examples about collective emancipation as a gateway to all forms of freedom. As such, the Palestine Fairies Project represents a series of reflections on Palestine and Palestinian women engaged in social and political struggles. Sawt Al Niswa invites all the voices from Palestine and the globe to construct a narration of Palestine and womanhood by submitting articles and creative contributions of their own perspective of Palestine, womanhood, the Nakba, occupation and exile. *Fairy, used in the title of the project, means a small imaginary being of human form that has magical powers, esp. a female one. Contribute to "Voice of Witness" A call for narratorsDeadline: November 1, 2010The Voice of Witness series will compile the oral histories of people impacted by post 9/11 backlash and will be published in May 2011. The project is seeking a diverse array of stories, voices and experiences. VOW is a human rights nonprofit that uses oral history to empower those most closely affected by contemporary social injustice. Seeking Scholar fluent in Arabic & English for TranslationDeadline: August 31, 2010The Ibrahim Hassoun Project Ibrahim Hassoun, a Palestinian Christian, wrote his memoirs, over 1000 pages, about his life in the Horn of Africa and Palestine from 1918- 1948. His unique perspectives on Africa and Palestine are an historical treasure. The project seeks a scholar that is fluent in both Arabic and English to take on the job of translating the manuscripts into English. The opportunity would make a good Masters or PhD project in translation, but the Arabic is of an older, more literary form and also contains many references in Amharic. The scholar must be willing to work as a team member with other scholars participating in the project under the supervision of Dr. Rosina Hassoun at Michigan State University.
