About ArteNews
|
Arts advocates and supporters have a new vehicle to find out about art and cultural happenings in the US and specific areas of the Middle East. ArteNews is a new web based magazine that offers ongoing updates on arts news and events pertaining to the Middle East and its diaspora. Read featured articles that review events, give insight into cultural programs and regional ventures, and offer critical commentary on the cultural and artistic productions that make up the diverse Middle Eastern scene. Our goal is to provide a wealth of resources that have until now been unavailable in one place. As we continue to develop ArteNews, you will be able to access news and event listings from regional newspapers, film festivals, art galleries, museums, cinemateques and arts and educational institutions.

In the Clement Society of Cinema
Between the ardor of militants and passions of aesthetes, a retrospective visit to the golden era of ciné-clubs in the Arab world
A special issue of ArteNews edited by Daikha Dridi and Rasha Salti.
There was a time in the contemporary history of Arab world, a mere forty or thirty years ago, when the passion for non-commercial cinema and the yearning for critical engagement with art and culture inspired the formation of ciné-clubs. Soon enough, these cultural spaces drew significant membership and transformed into vivacious realms for a free and open dialogue with world cinema and politically-engaged art. |

NEW ORLEANS MIDDLE EAST FILM FESTIVAL
August 1 - 10, 2008
The first time festival, which was presented by ZEITGEIST MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ARTS CENTER on January 19 through 28, 2007, without any grants or public funds, featured 43 films never screened before in New Orleans from throughout the Middle East. Curated by Rene Broussard, this remarkable program of films explored the extremely rich and complex history, politics and culture of this volatile region. Then, to round things off to an even 44, the festival was immediately followed by a weeklong exclusive, theatrical engagement of the award-winning documentary IRAQ IN FRAGMENTS by James Longley. |
