Dead Money (Filous Mayta), by Rami Abdul-Jabbar. Egypt, 2006, 15 min, MiniDV, U.S. Premiere

Two inseparable mates and petty Cairene hustlers lose a stash of hot sportswear while outrunning the cops. To square things with their boss, a narghile-toking banshee, they must collect a delinquent debt—her “dead money”—from another back-alley bigwig. The guys’ Tiger Beat allure, irreverent gags and propulsive soundtrack percussion make for a nimble macho lark.
