Synopsis
:
Undoubtedly, Slimane Azem was the most popular singer amidst the immigrant Algerian community in France, and the first immigrant artist  to earn a golden record. His songbook was shaped by the lived experience of exile. In spite of his talent and popularity, he was never able to transgress the ethnic barrier of community. He died in 1983 in Moissac, his adoptive hometown, more than twenty years after his death, this film pays homage to him.


Filmmaker’s Biography
:
Rachid Merabet, born in 1968 in Issodun (36), was educated at the Ecole Nationale of Beaux Arts in Bourges (18). In Algeria in 1993, he screened Itinéraire bis, a road-movie documentary about his Kabyle origins. In 1995, he directed Clair de lutte, a prolongation of his final film project during his studies, a documentary about French syndical history through a contemporary strike. In 1999, he made Juste une lueur, a fiction film screened within the frame of his association’s (AU FIL DU FAIRE) cultural activities. Since then, he has stepped in as the coordinator of an audiovisual project in PAC class, the director of an EPS project at the heart of l’Education Nationale.

In 2005, Slimane Azem, une légende de l’exil, the first documentary co-produced with France 3 Corse was selected in numerous national and international festivals. His first production with Films of La Castagne (31), with whom he is developing a Conte des rois sans terre is also underway. A history of interbreeding is forthcoming. He is currently working on a documentary on urban cultures with Moana Productions (17) entitled Portratis d’union, a film produced by the association AU FIL DU FAIRE, and the fruit of his encounter with Mr. Ali Tebib, president of the association APSECT, defender of the harki cause.
