Synopsis
A hilariously captivating film following 13-year-old Nejmia who flouts custom and refuses to wear a veil. Nejmia plays in the streets with boys, rides a bicycle, a scooter, and generally does whatever she likes. She is cursed, ridiculed, and threatened, but, is buoyed by an indomitable spirit she perseveres with incredible good humor and a sense of perspective.
Filmmaker's Biography
Khadija Al-Salami is Yemen’s first woman film-maker. She has made over 20 documentaries for TV stations in France and Yemen. She has received several awards at various film festivals. She has co-written a book with her husband, The Tears of Sheba, about her experiences growing up in Yemen. She currently serves as the Press Counselor and Director of the Communication and Cultural Center at the Embassy of Yemen in Paris.
