Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC): Work Sample Dos and Don'ts

In order to access funding, residencies and other professional opportunities, artists are often required to submit work samples for consideration. Who reviews work samples? How are they reviewed? How important is formatting? Context? This interactive workshop will cover these issues and provide a series of examples from a range of artistic disciplines that will allow participants to consider what makes a work sample compelling and why.

Ashkal Alwan: Home Workspace Program

Ashkal Alwan announces an open call for applications for the 2nd edition of Home Workspace Program: an annual, interdisciplinary arts program that targets emerging artists, writers, thinkers and cultural practitioners who wish to develop their formal, historical, and critical skills and practice in a supportive environment in Beirut.  Part academic, part practice-based, the curriculum consists of lectures, workshops and seminars by the RP and other leading local and international artists, writers, thinkers, filmmakers, curators, etc.  

Resident Professor for 2012-13 academic year is Matthias Lilienthal.

Iniva: Keyword Lecture Series

The Institute for International Visual Arts (Iniva) presents its monthly lecture series entitled Keywords which takes its title from Raymond Williams' seminal book Keywords: a Vocabulary of Culture and Society first published in 1976, which looks at how the meaning of words change as the context in which they are used changes about them. In this lecture, writer and activist Meena Menon will explore the term 'union'.
