Kurdish cinema is one of the most urgent and timely forces in world film today, having witnessed war and occupation in Iraq and struggles over identity, language, and political representation -- yet it remains largely unknown in the U.S.  This fall, the NY Kurdish Film Festival Committee, ArteEast, and The Kevorkian Center at NYU will host the 1st New York Kurdish Film Festival: Cinema Across Borders. Showcasing an exciting range of feature films, shorts, and documentaries from one of the Middle East’s great film cultures, the festival will connect directors from across the Kurdish region directly with the New York audiences, and will offer educational opportunities for understanding the history and culture of Kurdish people.
