Play: No Place Called HomeA new play written and performed by Kim SchultzSeptember 10, 2010 8 PM Alwan for the Arts Traveling to the Middle East to interview Iraqi refugees and hear their stories, Kim accidentally falls in love with one of them. This is that unexpected story--a story of an American woman and an Iraqi man, a story about one refugee out of 4 million, a story that isn’t supposed to be a love story. This play is produced as part of Intersections International’s Iraqi Voices Amplification Project (IVAP) to call attention to one of the most pressing and underreported social justice crises of our time: the displacement of more than 4 million Iraqis as a result of the American military intervention. Since 2006, an estimated 2.2 million Iraqis have fled their country, living as illegal migrants abroad – unable to work, access health or social services, or obtain an education for their children, with another 2 million displaced internally. |
