2012 OHA Emerging Crises Oral History Research FundDeadline: April 1, 2012The Oral History Association announces a grant of up to $3,000 to undertake oral history research in situations of crisis research in the United States and internationally. These funds may be applied to travel, per diem, or transcription costs for research in places and situations in which a longer application time schedule may be problematic. Such crisis situations include but are not limited to wars, natural disasters, political and or economic/ethnic repression, or other currently emerging events of crisis proportions. The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Award in Palestine StudiesDeadline: February 3, 2012The Center for Palestine Studies at Columbia University's Middle East Institute is pleased to announce the 2012-2013 Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Award in Palestine Studies. 2012 Curatorial Fellow/Academic Specialist at UC San Diego University Art GalleryDeadline: January 23, 2012The UCSD University Art Gallery (UAG) is pleased to invite applications for the 2012 Curatorial Fellowship Program. The University Art Gallery is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. This unique program provides a paid fellowship for curators in the early stages of their careers (beginning Fall 2012). During this period the fellow will work with the UAG Director and Exhibition Manager to produce a series of exhibitions and programs for the University Art Gallery. The Fellowship program seeks to increase the diversity of the curatorial profession and more generally enhance the dialogue around diversity within contemporary curatorial practice. The Curatorial Fellow will participate in the intellectual and creative life of the UCSD Visual Arts department, one of the leading centers for research in contemporary art practice, history and theory in the United States. Emerging Artist Fellowship at Socrates Sculpture ParkDeadline: January 23, 2012Emerging Artist Fellowship recipients are granted financial support in the amount of $5,000, a residency in the Park's outdoor studio (beginning in May 2012), and access to facilities, materials, equipment, and technical assistance to create a work for the annual Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition. Fellows are also given the administrative assistance to do additional fundraising for their project, procure in-kind support, and pursue future placement for their work. Architectural Studio Residency at Socrates Sculpture ParkDeadline: January 16, 2012Socrates Sculpture Park and the Architectural League invite emerging architects and designers to apply for the opportunity to build and exhibit a full-scale project around the theme of an architectural folly. This residency was established to explore the intersections between architecture and sculpture and the increasing overlaps in references, materials, and building techniques between the two disciplines. Socrates and the League welcome proposals for full-scale projects and installations that explore contemporary interpretations of the architectural folly. By definition a fanciful architectural form, built to lend interest to a view or serve as a conversation piece, the folly serves as an ideal launching point for a dynamic exploration of architectural form and its relationship to sculpture. A jury of architects, artists, curators, and arts administrators will select a single project to be realized within the grounds of Socrates Sculpture Park. The recipient will receive a $5,000 production grant to fund the project, as well as full access to the resources and fabrication facilities of Socrates Sculpture Park's outdoor studio during a two-month residency at the Park, beginning in May 2012. De Appel Curatorial Programme 2012/2013Deadline: January 16, 2012Initiated in 1994, the Curatorial Programme of de Appel arts centre aims to offer young curators a condensed package of experiences and skills that can be seen as instruments to enhance the development of their professional career. The curriculum revolves around theoretical issues in regular sessions with a tutorial team consisting of Floris Alkemade (architect,NL), Liesbeth Bik (visual artist, NL), Ann Demeester (director de Appel arts centre, BE/NL), Charles Esche (director Van Abbe Museum, UK/NL), Annie Fletcher (curator, IR/NL), Elena Filipovic (curator/writer, US/BE), Ann Goldstein (director Stedelijk museum), Henk Slager (philosopher/curator, NL), Lisette Smits (independent researcher/curator, NL), Jan Verwoert (art critic, DE) The eight-month long Curatorial Programme exists in its current form since 2006, with a reshaped curriculum and an extended tutorial team. It encompasses a dense array of seminars, workshops, excursions (including a three-week research trip to a destination outside Western Europe), practice-related assignments and encounters with artists and art professionals. The Global Film Initiative Winter 2012 Feature Film Production GrantsDeadline: January 15, 2012In its continuing effort to promote original filmmaking by individuals from around the world, the Global Film Initiative is pleased to announce the Winter 2012 cycle of its feature film production grants program. The Global Film Initiative will award production grants of up to $10,000 each to select applicants during its winter granting cycle. These funds are made available following the Initiative's evaluation of an applicant's completed screenplay and early film-footage, and may include a pre-sale option for exclusive U.S. distribution of an applicant's film by the Initiative. Young Arab Theatre Fund (YATF) grants for curators, galleries, and artistsDeadline: January 15, 2012Three kinds of grants are available this year through the Young Arab Theatre Fund (YATF). Both Production and Touring Grants are due January 1st, while the Arts & Cultural Spaces Grant must be submitted by January 15th. YATF is an International Association without Lucrative Purpose (a.i.s.b.l) that encourages young artists living and working in the Arab world, and who are producing multidisciplinary projects including theatre, dance, video, installation and music. YATF also supports independent cultural spaces and operators, as well as curatorial approaches in the Arab world, through dedicated programs announced separately. Crossroads: A new funding program for filmsDeadline: January 12, 2012تقاطعات مبادرة جديدة من الصندوق العربي للثقافة والفنون – آفاق تهدف إلى دعم مشاريع سينمائية من كافة الأنواع (روائي طويل ومتوسط، وثائقي طويل، روائي قصير، تجريبي، تحريك...) لمخرجين عرب صاعدين. يستقبل البرنامج مشاريع أفلام في المراحل الأولى من التطوير ومتصلة بالتغيرات الراهنة الحاصلة في العالم العربي، ويواكبها من خلال الدعم المالي والمهني خلال مراحل التطوير والإنتاج والتوزيع.

Crossroads is a new initiative launched by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and aims at supporting emerging Arab filmmakers. Crossroads is dedicated to film projects related to the ongoing changes occurring in the Arab world now. The program accepts film projects of all categories (feature, documentary, short, experimental, animation etc… ) in the development stage only and is conceived to provide both financial and professional support through the various stages of film development, production, post-production and distribution.The financial support is allocated per category as follows: - Feature films up to $65,000 US - Documentaries up to $45,000 US - Shorts up to $20,000 US For more information about the funding program, please click here. |
Henry Moore Institute Research Fellowships 2012-2013Deadline: January 9, 2012The Henry Moore Institute is a world-recognised centre for the study of sculpture in the heart of Leeds. An award-winning exhibitions venue, research centre, library and sculpture archive, the Institute hosts a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences and lectures, as well as developing research and publications, to expand the understanding and scholarship of historical and contemporary sculpture. Research Fellowships are intended for artists, scholars and curators, working on historic and contemporary sculpture using the Institute’s library, archive of sculptors’ papers and the collection of Leeds Art Gallery. Up to four fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds to develop their own research. With access to our resources and an on-going dialogue with the Institute staff, fellows are free to pursue their own interests in a supportive and stimulating environment. Senior Fellowships are intended to give established scholars (working on any aspect of sculpture) time and space to develop a research project free from their usual work commitments. Up to two senior fellowships, for periods of between four to six weeks will be offered. Both fellowships provide accommodation, travel expenses and a per diem. The Institute offers the possibility of presenting finished research in published form, as a seminar, or as a small exhibition. H+F Curatorial Grant 2012, FranceDeadline: December 15, 2011The "H+F Curatorial Grant 2012" is an ambitious and original initiative which allows the FRAC Nord–Pas de Calais (Dunkirk/France) in close partnership with the private collector Han Nefkens (H+F Collection), to give young international curators the opportunity to participate in the development of exhibition projects based on the collection. This grant, which was launched in 2007 offers emerging art coordinators and curators a unique infrastructure and environment with free access to a research and documentation centre as well as to one of the best French collections of contemporary art. The FRAC acts as the first intermediary for these future professionals of contemporary art by helping them to develop and implement their projects.
