Salzburg International Summer Academy - Tuition Grants available

Deadline: April 10, 2013

Some 90 grants, usually covering tuition costs only, are available for participation in one of the courses at the Summer Academy. Only grants by the American Austrian Foundation (AAF), ERSTE Foundation, Free State of Bavaria, and Münster Academy of Fine Arts offer additional subsidies for travel and living costs.

About the Summer Academy Programme:

The 2013 programme is diverse and multifaceted, ranging from stone sculpture to media art, from "arte útil" (useful art) to jewellery design and on to curatorial practice. The focus is on exploration, defining and interpreting the terrain where art is produced, presented and communicated—as well as on the inevitable disillusionment that occasionally arises, and the subsequent re-enchantment. Students will be given assistance in discovering their own artistic cosmos and creating scope for development. The 21 courses of between one and four weeks are held in three locations: Hohensalzburg Fortress, the old salt factory (Alte Saline) in Hallein and the Kiefer quarry in Fürstenbrunn.

EAVE: Interchange 2013, Support for Film Professionals in the Middle East

Deadline: March 14, 2013

The Interchange programme was created with the goal of building cooperation between film professionals from Europe and the Arab world through professional training centered on the in-depth development of a number of feature-length fiction film projects every year. It is open to 10 teams of writer/director & producer – usually about half of the participants are Arab and half are European –, as well as to 3 Arab film professionals interested in story editing training.

The four main concerns around which the course is built are project development (including script and comprehensive production development), co-production strategies between the European and Arab world, pitching & networking (at the Dubai Film Connection). The project-based training is designed to match the needs of experienced professionals who want to develop their skills through concrete work on their projects - under the expert guidance of international tutors – and who are ready to share their ideas with colleagues and engage themselves in discussions in order to improve and increase their knowledge.

Through 2 workshops – 1 in Turin and 1 in Dubai – and 2 midway on-line tutoring sessions, participants develop the projects and prepare for the conclusion of the programme: a final pitch at Dubai Film Connection, the largest co-production market between Europe and the Arab world with industry attendees from both areas, adding further value to the previous stages of the training.

Interchange is run by TorinoFilmLab, the Dubai International Film Festival and EAVE and it is supported by MEDIA Mundus.  For more information, please click here.

Accepting Applications: Watermill International Summer Program 2013

Deadline: March 6, 2013

For the past 20 years, one of the most important programs of The Watermill Center has been the International Summer Program led by Artistic Director Robert Wilson. Each summer approximately 65 artists from over 25 countries are invited to gather at Watermill for five weeks of intense creative exploration and artistic development. The Summer Program provides a unique opportunity for emerging artists to learn from established professionals in a laboratory environment.  This program requires everyone, regardless of experience, to live and work communally; assisting in chores, cooking, gardening, construction or collection maintenance.  This approach is crucial to understanding the collaborative working process and respecting shared resources.

Since 2008, the tuition for each International Summer Program participant has been provided in full by the Byrd Hoffman Watermill Foundation. The Foundation spends approximately $8,000 on each artist, which covers housing, food, local transportation, materials needed for work in the program, and the operating cost of the facility. The Foundation raises these funds through sponsorships from foundations, as well as individual benefactors who support the mission of the Center by joining the Watermill Mentor Program. If you are interested in participating in the Mentor Program by sponsoring an artist please contact Pinki Patel at (212) 253-7484 ext. 16 or pinki.patel@watermillcenter.org.

Gassworks, London: Situation/Event Performance Residency for non-UK based artists

Deadline: March 4, 2013

This new residency at Gasworks aims to support the development of art practices that might not normally thrive within existing residency models.

The resulting works could take the form of interventions, community or socially engaged projects, performances, workshops, ephemeral works, happenings, lectures, presentations, theatrical productions or other event-based activities.

The residency includes: accommodation and basic living expenses in London, modest materials/production budget, international (flights) and local (London transport) travel costs, a studio at Gasworks, an artist's talk and Open Studio, pastoral and curatorial support from Gasworks.  For more information, click here.
