ArteEast promotes its programs through collaborative projects with individuals, universities, community groups, museums and cultural institutions. Please contact us at info@arteeast.org to have any of our programs travel to your institution or to propose a new project.

ArteEast is a volunteer based organization. We offer plenty of opportunities, from program planning to poster distribution, research, print coordination, web management, and monitoring the theater.

Intern:

ArteEast, an organization dedicated to promoting the visibility of the arts and cultures of the Middle East in the United States, is looking to fill a number of internship positions in its ArteNews and Cinema East Departments. Candidates should be willing to commit to 10-15 hours a week for a period of at least three months. All positions are non-paying, but school credit can be earned. ArteNews Internships
ArteNews is a web based news resource that provides monthly information on the art scene in the Middle East. The areas of interest are visual arts, music and film. We will include segments on regional film festivals, exhibitions, concerts, upcoming artists, and other engagements.

Responsibilities:

-Conducting detailed research on arts events in the Middle East, both on the web and any other medium you may need to use. Read websites, journals, art magazines, and newspapers in Middle Eastern languages, and write a summary of the news in English to be published on the web every month. We also need people with reading comprehension in French to conduct research in French and English publications to cover news on diasporic communities. The material is time sensitive and must be up to date.
-Conduct fact checking of the published material.
-Contact film festivals, galleries, journals, magazines, and artists in the Middle East, Europe, and the US for direct information on contemporary news. Develop and maintain an ongoing relationship with them. Build a database of contact information.

Qualifications:
-High reading comprehension in one Middle Eastern language such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, etc (suggestions for other Middle Eastern languages are welcome) or French.
-Good writing skills in English, as the segments will be written in English.
-Demonstrate excellent web and print research skills.
-Great communicational skills, be able to meet strict deadlines, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.
-Applicants from Creative Writing, Journalism, Middle Eastern Studies, Film Studies, Art History majors are encouraged to apply.

What will you get out of it?
ArteNews will give you exposure to the art world not only in the Middle East but also in the United States. You will have the opportunity to work in an intellectually stimulating environment. Your input to the organization will be one of great importance, and you will be adding your own creativity to ArteNews. You will develop your writing/editorial skills and learn a great deal. Most importantly it will be a fun and exciting task. School credit can be earned.

Cinema East Internships
Cinema East is an annual film series launched in September, 2003. Held in collaboration with the department of Middle East Studies at New York University, Cinema East features a diverse array of films from the Middle East, the Muslim world and their diaspora. The program is showcased in New York travels to film and art institutions throughout the country.

Responsibilities:
-Conducting detailed research on new films produced by filmmakers in the Middle East and the diaspora, including regularly checking film festivals' websites and relevant newspapers.
-Contacting and maintaining an ongoing relationship with filmmakers and distributors to obtain preview copies for ArteEast's consideration.
-Logging all preview tapes received and serving as a liaison to filmmakers and distributors
-Assisting the Director of Film Programs with any aspects of maintaining the program, including contact with volunteers, and the distribution of all Cinema East publicity, email blasts and press releases.

Qualifications:
-Must have great communicational skills, be able to meet deadlines, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.
-Detail oriented and ability to work autonomously.
-Demonstrated commitment to the arts and the Middle East
-Excellent organizational skills to supervise and coordinate a large group of diverse people
